February.6.2008

Basically what we did today was go over last nights homework about proportions.percents, and ratios. Also we discussed Mr.Rochester's expectations for the class for instance he feels that we don't follow the rules. When you re in Mr.Rochester's class don't pull out your laptop becuase you know you won't need it anyway it's algebra we use a pencil and paper. Also if you are failing his class you know who you are don't play music becuase you need to be focusing on your work and most the time you don't even have headphones, and Mr.Rochester collected e-mail information so intead of talking to all of our parents he is going to e-mail your progress. Monday a test is coming up becuase we don't have him Friday the test will be Monday study hard and no matter what you get on the test he's still sending them to your parents so you might as well try and look good. Today we also got our classwork there was no homework but we got our class work for the day,and you people who weren't in class, absent, or just not paying attention when he called your name for attendance get a make up sheet so you can get credit for the day. So everyone who missed this day make sure you get a makeup sheet for credit.

(The scribe for tomorrow is Chris.)

This is the classwork for the day.

Unit 3 FINAL ASSIGNMENT Part 1 - Math Problems

SHOW ALL STEPS.

1. Triangle ABC and DEF below are similar. Use proportion to solve for x. SHOW ALL WORK.

2. What does “percent” mean? Also explain in your own words how percents are ratios. (Write 2-3 sentences)

3. In your own words and using 1-2 complete sentences, describe what “sampling” means.

6. Sam has 24 ounces of gas and one ounce of oil in her motorcycle. How much oil must be added to make the ratio of gas to oil 16 : 1?

7. Triangle UCB is similar to triangle UOP. Use a proportion to solve for x. (Hint: How long is OU?)

8. The length of a rectangle is six centimeters more than the width.
a. Draw and label a diagram. Let w be the width.

b. If the ratio of the length to the width is five to three, find the rectangle’s dimensions.

9. Any salesman at Best Buy that sells a SONY digital camera gets a 6% commission. Tony sold a digital camera today and Best Buy received a net proceeds of $124 (after paying Tony his commission). What was the original price of the camera?
